How dumb is a rock? The time has come for an answer. We simply cannot have the US President, Donald Trump, hurling it about with gay abandon into public discourse, without an answer.
In the latest incident, Trump described Rex Tillerson (above left), who for barely more than a year was his secretary of state, as existing in such a geological state.
You’d think when you hired someone you would have an inkling of their dumb as a rock status. But no. Trump must surely have been shocked at the discovery. This was a man, after all, who had been chairman and chief executive of ExxonMobil, so there were compatible outlooks on business and energy. But no, it turns out Tillerson was as dumb as a rock, and lazy too. Lazy as hell, what’s more Trump tweeted. “Couldn’t get rid of him fast enough.”
It would not have helped Tillerson’s cause in describing Trump, the self-proclaimed and self-acclaimed genius, as a moron. Tillerson has also said Trump was “pretty undisciplined, doesn’t like to read, doesn’t read briefing reports … doesn’t like to get into the details of a lot of things.
How dumb is a rock? Ironically, the President proves over and over, he is a good yardstick.
“I’d have to say to him, well Mr President, I understand what you want to do, but you can’t do it that way. It violates the law, it violates treaty … you know, he got really frustrated.”
A frustrated Trump is not a private Trump. He goes viral. With his more than 50 million followers, the Twitter empire must surely love him. Every day, genius spills into the world, such as: “The Trump Administration has accomplished more than any other U.S. Administration in its first two (not even) years of existence, & we are having a great time doing it! All of this despite the Fake News Media, which has gone totally out of its mind-truly the Enemy of the People!”
My enemies are the nation’s enemies. Really? How dumb is a rock? Ironically, the President proves over and over, he is a good yardstick. He may label others as dumb or dummies or of low IQ, but you’d have to be dumb as a sedimentary slab to believe what he says. The register of lies and distortions he has uttered, as noted by the “Fake News Media”, that is, the New York Times and the Washington Post runs into the thousands.
Samantha Power, former US ambassador to the UN, pleaded recently to headline writers: “STOP THIS, headline writers. If you want to quote this president in a headline – in an age when many people read only headlines – you must write, ‘Trump (a proven, serial liar) says…’ But best not to quote him in a headline.”
He is, if nothing else, consistent. In 2015, Trump brought out the rock in his presidential campaign against Jeb Bush: “The last thing our country needs is another Bush. Dumb as a rock!”
And he should know.
