Musicals, News & Commentary, Opera, Stage VIDEO: Julie Andrews arrives in Australia to direct My Fair Lady By Ben Neutze | November 10, 2015 | The original musical Eliza Doolittle, Dame Julie Andrews arrived in Sydney this week to start auditions for Opera Australia and John Frost’s new 60th anniversary production of My Fair Lady. The production, which will be based on the original Broadway production, uses the original set and costume designs from 1956 and opens in the Sydney Opera House in August next year. Andrews gave a media conference this morning at the Opera House and (alongside producer John Frost) discussed her experiences in the original production, her most iconic roles, and finding Australia’s new Eliza. She also tells the story of her first ever audition for Rodgers and Hammerstein (for their ill-fated show Pipe Dream) as she was waiting to hear back from Lerner and Loewe about her future with My Fair Lady.
