  1. Get a book called Fear and loathing on the campaign trail ’72 by Hunter S Thompson. Its out of print but Bookfinder.com will have copies. Its the story of Nixon and George Mc Govern and people like Hubert Humphrey. I think its the best book ever about US politics.
