The Production Company (TPC) announced its 2018 season this morning in Melbourne at Raheen, the home of its founder Jeanne Pratt. The three shows see the return of The Boy from Oz with Caroline O’Connor as Judy Garland, a revival of Oklahoma! starring Helpmann Award winners Simon Gleeson (pictured above, left) and Anna O’Byrne and the Australian premiere of Tony award-winning A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder with Mitchell Butel (pictured above, right) playing eight members of one family.
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! from May 26 to June 3 at the State Theatre, will also feature Elise McCann, Bobby Fox and Ben Mingay and in their TPC debuts, stage veterans Robyn Nevin and Richard Piper. It will be directed by Chris Parker.
The Boy from Oz at the same venue from August 11 to 19, will star Rohan Browne (pictured above, middle) as Peter Allen in the bio-musical of the songwriter’s life that feature his songs and a book by Nick Enright. It will be directed by Jason Langley.
A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder will see Butel as Monty Navarro, a penniless clerk who discovers he is ninth in line to be Lord D’Ysquith, the Earl of Highhurst. When the D’Ysquith family dismiss Monty’s claim, all eight family members in line to be Earl start dying. It will be staged at the Playhouse at Arts Centre, Melbourne from October 27 to November 11. The musical, to be directed by Roger Hodgman, won Tonys in 2014 for best book and best musical for its American creators Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak.
