Photo gallery – When the MSO met Cirque de la Symphonie

| |

International circus troupe Cirque de la Symphonie tours the world performing with orchestras and is now on a three week tour of Australia. Friday might was the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s turn to join forces with the Cirque at Hamer Hall for what was a knock-out event.

Aerial artists, acrobats, contortionists, jugglers and strongmen showed a precision and speed that matched the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra conducted by Benjamin Northey. As the MSO performed Dvořák’s Carnival, Bizet’s Carmen Suite Nos. 1 and 2, Smetana’s The Bartered Bride: Dance of the Comedians, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite and Sibelius’ Finlandia, the two artforms complemented each other seamlessly and spectacularly.

The featured photographs are by Daniel Aulsebrook from Friday’s show.
