SIMONE YOUNG AM Conducts MESSIAEN’S Turangalila-Symphonie

ONE NIGHT ONLY – 29 July 2017, Arts Centre Melbourne

The AWO’s gala concert event will be held on Saturday 29 July at Arts Centre Melbourne where conductor Simone Young will lead an orchestra of over 100 musicians from the Australian World Orchestra and the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) in an exhilarating performance of Olivier Messiaen’s mammoth Turnagalila-Symphonie. Messiaen’s “epic love-song” includes a virtuosic piano concerto – performed by Australian pianist Timothy Young, and features soloist Jacob Abela on the ondes Martenot – a spooky sounding early electronic musical instrument.
