Tessa Waters is bringing her new show Fully Sik to Melbourne International Comedy Festival from March 30, after touring around the globe for much of 2016. Last year she took her physical comedy Over Promises and her body positive kids show How To Be A Rockstar to Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brighton, Athens, London Southbank, Berlin and Edinburgh.
Now that she’s back home in Oz, we asked Tessa to answer our six key questions for comedians …
Describe your show in 140 characters or less
A Fully Sik joy ride of high octane sketches and improv stupidity with multi-award winning comedian Tessa Waters.
Do you have a pre-gig ritual?
I get all jittery before a show so I put on some dance floor bangers and have a good boogie to dispel the nervous energy and get my head and boy in the game. Sometimes my venue crew joins in and it’s a real party.
Who is the funniest person in the world and why?
Right now, at this second, it is Melissa McCarthy if only for her impeccable impression and comedy take down of Sean Spicer on SNL. Comedy has the power to disempower the bastards, and the reaction from Trump has been hilarious.
What’s the most revealing joke you’ve ever told on stage? (assuming you’re happy for it to come up for eternity when people Google your name and stumble across this article)
My favourite new bit is about my discovery (as in I read it, not that I am a scientist lols) that the two ‘arms’ of the clitoris sit around the vaginal shaft and when you orgasm they give your vagina a little hug … and whatever is in your vagina a little hug … cute, think about that next time!
What’s the most memorable thing a heckler has ever said to you?
I’m not sure if this was a heckle but it certainly threw me. At a gig in Edinburgh one year, a guy once yelled out ‘Mate you are fucking funny, you gave me a semi!’… Aw, bless. He meant well.
If you weren’t a comedian, what would you be?
