Australian cast of Kinky Boots the musical revealed

Local musical theatre and cabaret artist Toby Francis and British performer Callum Francis (pictured above) will lead the Australian premiere production of Kinky Boots at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne this October. Callum plays Lola, a fabulous drag queen who inspires Charlie, played by Toby, to transform his struggling, conservative family shoe-making business into something more profitable.

Toby is currently a member of The Ten Tenors and recently appeared in the Hayes Theatre’s production of Dogfight. His cabaret Love, Death and an American Guitar won the Sydney Theatre Award for Best Cabaret of 2014.

Callum is currently the understudy for Lola on the West End production of Kinky Boots and has previously appeared in The Lion King, Ghost and Miss Saigon.

They’re joined by Sophie Wright as Lauren, Damien Birmingham as Don, Teagan Wouters as Nicola and Nathan Carter as George. Completing the ensemble are Blake Appelqvist, Glenn Butcher, Hilary Cole, Jessica Condon, Denise Devlin, Euan Doidge, Daniel Downing, Bronte Florian, Linden Furnell, Ryan Gonzalez, Samm Hagen, Anthony Harkin, Joe Kosky, Jenni Little, Liam Peel, Emma Powell, Matthew Predny, Eric Rasmussen, Mark Stefanoff and Mitchell Woodcock.

Based on the 2005 Miramax film of the same name, Kinky Boots opened on Broadway in 2013 and won both the Tony and Olivier Awards for Best Musical, and features a score by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein. It’s directed by double Tony winner Jerry Mitchell.

Cyndi Lauper said: “Just wait until you see Callum and Toby do their thing, they are both so talented! I’m thrilled to have them join our big, fabulous Kinky Boots family.”
