APRA Awards: Flume, Sia, Troye Sivan and D.D. Dumbo win

Flume (aka Harley Streten) picked up three awards at last night’s 2017 APRA Music Awards, including Songwriter of the Year, and Dance Work of the Year and Most Played Australian Work for Never Be Like You.

But Flume, who in the last 12 months has won eight ARIA Awards and a Grammy, didn’t score a nomination for the prestigious Song of the Year award, which went to D.D. Dumbo (aka Oliver Perry) for Satan, beating out Tim Minchin’s Come Home (Cardinal Pell), Amy Shark and M-Phazes’s AdoreJulia Jacklin’s Pool Party, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ Skeleton Key.

Social media sensation Troye Sivan won Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year for his debut album Blue Neighbourhood, while Pop Work of the Year went to Sia for her song Cheap Thrills, which brings her total APRA tally up to eight.

The Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music was presented to songwriter, storyteller and activist, Archie Roach. Paul Kelly, A.B. Original and Dan Sultan performed a tribute to Roach with his song Took the Children Away.
