Harry Potter returns, again, while the new Star Wars movie is getting closer and Kanye West teams up with a Beatle. Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black and True Detective forge ahead at the Emmys, and Facebook gets funny.

JK Rowling releases new Harry Potter story

It seems JK Rowling can’t keep away from the magical realm that made her the richest author in the world. Rowling has just released her third short story related to the Potter-world this year, after surprising fans with a new story following her cast of characters last month. She’s now gone deeper into the world with a profile of witch-singer Celestina Warbeck (the Beyonce of the magical world), which you can read here.

“Warbeck” also regularly performs at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, part of the Universal theme park in Orlando, USA. Here, she sings the song “You Stole My Cauldron But You Can’t Have My Heart”.

Star Wars Episode VII approaches

With a release set for December 18, 2015, JJ Abrams directing and Disney producing, the seventh episode of the Star Wars series is fast approaching. The good people at Vulture have thrown together all the news that’s come out of the set so far, including casting, which villains will show up and exactly what the movie is about. Have a read, but beware that it’s full of potential spoilers.

Note: This pop culture bite is not satirical. This is really happening on Facebook.

Television’s night of nights is next week with the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, but last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony offers a hint as to what way the major awards will fall. Game of Thrones and True Detective were the big winners of the night, each with four wins, but Netflix’s Orange is the New Black was close behind with three. Read the full list of winners here.

Next month, pop power couple Beyonce and Jay Z’s joint On The Run tour will be screened on HBO. They’ve just released a slick, moody trailer for the special featuring footage from the concert and Beyonce performing the Nancy Sinatra classic Bang Bang. No Australian screening date has been announced yet.

Kanye West and Paul McCartney making music?

From the collaboration the world’s been celebrating for more than a decade to one that nobody wanted. According to Page Six rapper Kanye West and Beatles legend Paul McCartney have recorded some music together that may develop into an album. West’s representative refused to comment, which probably indicates that there’s some truth to the rumours …
